Diamond Marshall, who famously got a hug from the Princess Kate Middleton on the couple’s visit to Calgary in 2011, has passed away. The young girl had been battling a rare form of cancer for most of her nine years.

Diamond was 6-years-old when the newlywed royal couple came to visit Canada on a Royal Tour, and had all her wishes come true when she got a hug from a real-life princess. After watching the Royal Wedding on TV from her hospital bed, she wrote a letter to Wills and Kate asking to meet them, and well they said yes! Everything was made possible thanks to the Children’s Make A Wish Foundation.

Back in 2011, we featured Diamond’s story in Rosey Edeh’s ET Canada Gives Back segment special, when the entertainment reporter travelled to Calgary to meet with the brave little girl. When Rosey asked Diamond why she wanted to meet Duchess Kate, she revealed “I like princess stuff and I like princesses,” it was as simple as that.

Rosey then went on to surprise Diamond with a Disney Princess dream come true. Today, Rosey remembers the little girl who touched so many: “Gone far too soon but what a brilliant fighter. Beautiful Diamond your memory will always shine bright. We at ET Canada will miss but never forget you.”;
