Trainor performs the song “I’m A Lady” from the “Smurfs: The Lost Village” soundtrack and tells host Ellen DeGeneres that the performance is the first time she’s sung since the surgery. Her surgeon is even in the audience and Trainor says she was performing the song to her the whole time as a thank you.

“It was tough,” she says, admitting she was trying not to cry. “I really couldn’t talk since December. So, it was, like, three months of vocal rest and we decided, let’s get the surgery before ‘Ellen'” she reveals.

Since she couldn’t talk for three months, her boyfriend, “Spy Kids” actor Daryl Sabara, learned sign language for her. “He just stuck with me through it,” she says.

The host then congratulated her on her relationship with the actor. “He’s, like, better than whatever I wished for,” Trainor gushes.
