Former First Lady Jackie Onassis once asked Alec Baldwin out on a date — and he accepted, despite the fact there was a nearly 30-year difference in their ages.

The revelation comes from James Hart, a longtime friend of Onassis, who recently published his memoir, Lucky Jim.

According to PeopleHart — who’s married to “You’re So Vain” singer Carly Simon — writes that Onassis often sought his opinion on men, and one night called him up about his “good friend” Alec Baldwin.

“‘Well, do you think Alec could be my date for the theatre on my birthday?’” Hart recalls Onassis asking him prior to her 62nd birthday (Baldwin was then 33).

“I was surprised by the openness of the request, but I acted as though there was nothing unusual about it,” Hart writes. “Alec was most shocked of all, but there wasn’t a moment’s hesitation, even though he had just met Kim Basinger.”

Baldwin’s response: “I’m there.”

When he asked if Baldwin was sure, the actor replied: “Are you kidding? Jackie Kennedy wants to go on a date? Of course.”
