Nelly Furtado has revealed that she and her husband of nine years, Demacio Castellon, have split.
Furtado, 38, is currently promoting her new album “The Ride” and appeared on UK talk show “Loose Women” on Wednesday. While talking with the hosts, the singer let it spill that she is currently single and ready to mingle.
Furtado’s rep confirmed the split to Entertainment Tonight: “Nelly is out of the country promoting her new album, but on her behalf, I can confirm the news is true, and Nelly has been and is in great spirits personally and professionally,” her rep told ET. “She is currently in the U.K. and Germany promoting her new album.”
“I’m single now, someone needs to update my Wikipedia it’s not helping my dating life!” she joked. She also opened up about how her daughter, Nevis, who is now 13, was part of her touring life early on but it became an exhausting balancing act.
“At the height of my career, it was super exciting – but I took too much on. A mother on the road trying to maintain a relationship. I cried on stage,” she admitted. “Touring with my daughter got very tiring. I was breastfeeding on the tour bus,” the singer continued.
For the “Maneater” songstress, it was hard to say no at first. “As women you’re nurturers and with a successful business you feel the pressure not to say no more than our male counterparts,” she confessed. “I wrote and sung myself songs to get through a break-up, being on tour. It soothes me,” she revealed.
These days, she’s taking better care of herself. She enjoys staying home and baking muffins for her daughter and even cleaning the toilet. “It’s great to have your career take off and have those blessings, but if you don’t have that time, when you give and give, you crash,” she said.
