Fans of the late Charlie Murphy will forever remember his hilarious anecdote about hanging out with an out-of-his-mind Rick James, hilariously re-enacted on “Chappelle’s Show”, and the star of that show honoured Murphy during a Wednesday night standup performance in Ohio.
Murphy, who passed away Wednesday morning at age 57 after a battle with leukemia, was a close friend of Chappelle, who referenced Murphy’s passing at his show, at which he was joined by singer-guitarist John mayer.
“Today, I got some terrible news,” Chappelle told the crowd. “My good friend, Charlie Murphy, passed away this morning, and everybody in comedy is heartbroken.”

After reminiscing about Murphy, Chappelle and Mayer offered a musical tribute, performing “You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me,” with Chappelle admitting “it reminds me of my friend.”
Chappelle asked the audience members to put away their cell phones, but the performance was nonetheless captured on video (above).
