There’s no peace in sight for Salma Hayek’s Beatriz and John Lithgow’s Doug Strutt as their characters clash in the new trailer for “Beatriz at Dinner”.
Directed by Miguel Arteta, the dark comedy tells the story of a dinner party gone wrong when the Donald Trump-esque Strutt throws all politically correct rhetoric out the window when taking a seat across from the peace-loving immigrant, Beatriz.
The picture, which was dubbed “a squirm-inducing comedy” by the Los Angeles Times, tackles the racial climate that gripped the United States as Trump overtook Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House.
As dinner guests sit down for a lavish meal, a series of increasingly uncomfortable conversations pepper the new trailer for the film, which hits theatres June 9. “Did you come legally?” Strutt asks, after Beatriz explains how she made her way to America. Another heated scene between the pair sees Beatriz hurl a phone at the pompous billionaire after seeing images of the obnoxious Lithgow killing animals in Africa.
Hayek and Lithgow star alongside Chloe Sevigny, Connie Britton, Jay Duplass and David Warshofsky.
