Fans on Twitter were thrown into confusion after Canadian-born funnyman Jim Carrey posted an Easter Sunday selfie. “Happy Easter or Passover or whatever reason you can find to feel warm and fuzzy,” the actor captioned the photo, with a very unkempt photo of himself holding a bunny.
Carrey has stayed out of the spotlight and is rarely on social media, having only released two movies since 2015. But since the actor’s surprise post, the Twitterverse had difficulty deciding if the bearded man was really Carrey.
One fan wrote: “I had to look at this picture for 5-minutes before my brain understood that this was Jim Carrey.” While another just compared him to Tom Hanks’ character in “Castaway”.
Although this is a new look for fans to see on Carrey, it seems the 55-year-old star’s new project “The Bad Batch” features him with the grungy grey beard and long hair, making him almost unrecognizable. You can catch the first glimpse of Carrey in the cannibal action-thriller, also starring fellow Canuck Keanu Reeves and model Suki Waterhouse, below.
Fans will see a lot more of the overgrown Carrey when “The Bad Batch” is released on June 23.
