Samantha Bee Doesn’t Like To Believe Donald Trump Was Elected: ‘I Wish I Could Wake Up To A New Reality’

Canadian-born comedian Samantha Bee talks with W Magazine about Donald Trump’s election, planning her Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and working with husband Jason Jones.

The “Full Frontal” star revealed she’s still in shock over Trump’s election, “I still can’t believe it happened. I wish I could wake up to a new reality.”

“But now we have this hose of bulls**t aimed at our faces 24/7. I hope I maintain the capacity to be shocked, you know? I’ve surprised myself. I thought I was a savvy, jaded person, but now every day I’m a freshly shocked country girl,” she continued.

But Bee is fighting back, she’s hosting her own dinner to rival the White House Correspondents’ Dinner conveniently named Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The party, she says, will poke fun at the U.S. president, “Basically it’ll be a bratty party that maybe pokes the beast a little bit.”

During her exclusive feature with the mag, the 47-year-old comedian opened up about working with husband Jason Jones, whom she met while they both stared on “The Daily Show” and now both work on “Full Frontal”.

“It feels like [a] continuation – an intensification, sure – but a continuation of a relationship that has long existed,” she adds. “I think we’re doing okay with it. We don’t have a social life. We’re basically in bed a 9:30. Head down, eyes forward.”

The couple, who share three kids, Piper, 11, Fletcher, 8, and Ripley, 6, sat down together and revealed secrets from their first date, watch the full interview above.
