Singer/songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk and husband Raine Maida, front man of Our Lady Peace, received one of the nation’s highest honours yesterday when the couple was jointly appointed to the Order of Canada.

Their appointment recognizes the couple’s charity War Child, which helps children in war-torn regions throughout the globe.

When he first learned they were to be appointed, “I was absolutely in shock,” Raine told The National Post. “I kind of feel we’re not distinguished enough or maybe we’re too young. Maybe it’s the Canadian in us, the humility factor, but it just seems a little surreal.”;

As Chantal explains, she believes they’re never more connected as a couple than “when we’re talking about an issue where we can see progress, or where we’re a part of something that seems to be growing or have hope, or where we feel compassion. That’s a great place to put your time.”;

Chantal and Raine are among 95 Canadians who were appointed to the Order of Canada by the Governor General’s office on Friday, with other appointees including Hockey Night in Canada announcer Bob Cole, former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney and AIDS researcher Dr. Julio Montaner.
