Stories of Amy Schumer’s generosity when tipping restaurant servers and bartenders are becoming legendary, and the latest story to emerge proves the “Trainwreck” star shows no signs of tightening up the pursestrings.
According to People, Schumer was out for a run in Chicago when she stopped in the Six Corners Mattress Firm in desperate need of a bathroom; luckily, store employee Sagine Lazarre was happy to oblige, pointing the star to the restroom with no idea that the jogger was a celebrity.
After finishing up, Schumer was about to leave when she asked Lazarre which mattress in the store she thought was the best. After Lazarre identified a particular high-end mattress — which cost $2,000 — Schumer pulled out her credit card and bought it for the store clerk as a way to show her gratitude.
“She comes out of the bathroom and asks me which one of these [mattresses] is my favourite,” Lazarre told Chicago’s WGN News. “I told her … She told me she wanted to buy it for me. And I was was so shocked!”
At first, Lazarre thought she was the butt of some type of practical joke, until Schumer told her it was her way of thanking her for letting her use the restroom. Schumer paid with a credit card, and Lazarre says she remembered seeing name “Amy Schumer” on the card.
“After she left, I Googled her name,” noted Lazarre. “The lady that was right there talking to me is Amy Schumer. It was amazing. Unbelievable.”
Lazarre added that she and her daughter had just moved to a new apartment, and a new mattress could not have arrived at a better time.
This isn’t the first time that Schumer has made headlines for her out-of-the-blue generosity, such as that time last year when she left bartenders a $1,000 tip on a $77 tab.
