Netflix’s ‘Legend Of The Monkey’ Adaptation Garners Whitewashing Criticism

Netflix is being accused again of whitewashing with its latest series, “Legend of the Monkey”.

The show is an adaptation of an ancient Chinese story from the 16th century. Its source material, “Journey to the West”, revolves around a Buddhist monk and three Chinese gods.

When the streaming service released the first look at the remake, it was noticeable that it doesn’t include any Chinese actors.

It should be noted that one of the actors of the series, Chai Hansen, is half-Thai, while two other male characters have Maori backgrounds.

In March, the streaming service was accused of whitewashing with the series “Death Note” and before that with the series “Iron Fist”.
