Celine Dion has never once attended the Met Gala, but all that just changed.
The accomplished Canadian singer made her Met Gala debut on Monday, May 1 and wore a fashion designer with whom she is very familiar: Donatella Versace.
“She’s always been supporting me and I mean that in different ways,” Dion said of Versace. “Through her talent and when I was back on stage she helped me with her amazing work to literally support me after delivering twins [in 2010]. Three months [after giving birth] I was on stage and I did not look at all like I just had twins. I don’t know how she does it.”
You would think “The Power of Love” singer had seen it all by now, but Dion was impressed with the scale of the Met Gala. “This is like having a job for the first time or having a kiss for the first time — this is big,” she told WWD Sunday night at a Harper’s Bazaar and American Express hosted cocktail party. “I’m not going to have enough eyes [to see it all].”
Dion, 49, and Versace have been collaborating for decades. One of the Quebec-born singer’s most memorable Versace outfits was the sexy red cutout gown she wore to the American Music Awards in 1993.
