Your mind powers will not work on Laura Dern.
There is mystery and intrigue surrounding Dern and her upcoming role in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”. The 50-year-old actress would not be fooled by any Jedi mind tricks when asked about her intergalactic gig. “What I can say is I had the time of my life,” Dern told The Associated Press on — unsurprisingly — Thursday, May 4.
“I felt like an 8-year-old every day at work, to go to work and be in makeup and hair and walk out in this community of people and, you know, be in a studio where you look down the corridor and you see Chewbacca!”
The “Jurassic Park” actress was equally tight-lipped about rumours she is in the running for president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Last week, Variety reported Dern was in the mix after current president Cheryl Boone’s term expires in July.
“It was news to me. If it came from anyone at the academy, what a gorgeous compliment,” she said. Dern joined the board last July, but didn’t sound too optimistic about a run as president. “I would love to be more and more involved for the rest of my life but don’t know that that should have any predefined title,” the actress continued. “I’m definitely learning on the fly a great deal.”
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” forces its way into theatres on December 15, boasting an impressive cast including: the late Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o and — of course — Dern.
The two-time Oscar nominee was in New York to support a family health-focused global initiative. May the 4th be with you Laura Dern.
