‘Timeless’ Tops Poll Of ‘On The Bubble’ TV Shows That Viewers Most Want Saved

It’s that time of year again when the U.S. television networks prepare to set their schedules for the coming fall TV season, which spells good news for the shows that will be renewed and utter doom for the ones that will wind up cancelled.

As always, a number of “on the bubble” shows are waiting to find out their respective fates, and USA Today has once again put out the question to readers in its annual “Save Our Shows” poll to see which series they most want to see stick around for another season.

This year’s poll serves up a clear winner: NBC time-travel drama “Timeless” (which airs in Canada on Global), a clear favourite among fans, with 49 per cent of those who responded listing that show as the one they’d most like to see spared from the axe of cancellation.

Also showing popularity with viewers is CBS’s “Elementary”, with the Sherlock Holmes-centred whodunit (which also airs on Global) taking a close second with 48 per cent of the vote.

Tying at a more distant third place: NBC’s “Blindspot” and ABC’s “Last Man Standing”, which each garnered 36 per cent.

The show that viewers least want to see return? That would be Fox’s TV reboot of “The Exorcist”, which landed in last place with a measly 6 per cent.

“More than 146,600 votes were cast in the campaign, now in its 20th year,” notes USA Today in its press release announcing the results. “The poll asked USA Today readers to pick which of 24 scripted series on the major broadcast networks hovering ‘on the bubble’ between renewal and cancellation deserve another season – and which belong in TV’s scrap heap.”
