Ryan Seacrest, On Returning To Host ‘American Idol’: ‘We Haven’t Gotten That Far’

With the rumour mill turning over a potential “American Idol” revival, Ryan Seacrest reveals if he would ever return to host the show.

While speaking with his new co-host Kelly Ripa on “Live With Kelly And Ryan” on Monday, the 42-year-old radio and television host, who shocked fans with news of his new gig on ABC’s morning show last week, discusses the network’s potential deal to bring back the popular singing competition, which previously aired on FOX.

When asked if he would host the show again, Seacrest says, “I don’t know about that part yet. We haven’t gotten that far. This was news to me last week. I had said at the end of the series ‘Goodbye for now,’ hoping somewhere it would come back and it was rumoured to be going back to other networks. I had no idea it was being talked about coming here.”

“It’s unofficial,” Seacrest adds. “But very close to being said it will be here.” The star television producer goes on to question if he would be able to tackle co-hosting the morning show in addition to hosting duties in the evening. “I don’t know if I can host [American Idol],” he says.

“Yes, you can!” Ripa exclaims. “I know that you’re busy in the mornings. I get it. I understand it’s hard doing double duty. You’ve got your radio show, you’ve got this. But your nights are free.” Reminiscing about the time she auditioned to be on the show, she says, “I was like your original fan,” joking, “I have the voice of an angel.”
