Consider this good news or bad news, depending on which side of the George Lucas fence you’re on these days.
The iconic director has revealed the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens features little to none of his contributions.
“The [sequel scripts] that I sold to Disney, they came to the decision that they didn’t really want to do those,”; George tells CinemaBlend. “They made up their own. So it’s not the ones that I originally wrote.”;
Those keeping tabs on the business dealings behind Star Wars know that Disney purchased the beloved franchise for $4.06 billion back in October 2012. And included in this momentous acquisition were George’s story treatments for Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII, and IX.
Although it’s been well reported Star Wars: The Force Awakens was penned by J.J. Abrams and The Empire Strikes Back co-writer Lawrence Kasdan, many fans assumed George played some role in sculpting the narrative.
Don’t feel too bad for the 70-year-old legend, though. George says passing the Star Wars baton has freed him up to develop a series of “experimental films”; (his words). An exciting proposition to be sure!
