Jimmy Fallon unveiled his latest “First Drafts of Rock” sketch on Monday’s “Tonight Show”, this time bringing viewers an early look at what would eventually become ZZ Top’s 1983 mega-hit “Legs”.
Sporting a long fake beard, Fallon was joined by country star Chris Stapleton, whose own real-life beard is impressive enough to place him in ZZ Top territory, while both played plush, fuzzy guitars. Meanwhile, Kevin Bacon (a veteran of the “First Draft of Rock” sketches, having appeared in previous parodies of Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll”, The Beach Boys’ “Fun, Fun, Fun”, The Kinks’ “Lola” and Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin'”) sat in on drums.
This early draft of the song, however, finds the band singing the praises of some body parts other than legs.
“She’s got arms,” sings Fallon. “They’re like legs, but on her upper half,” adding: “She’s got elbows, she scrubs ’em when she takes a bath.”
Stapleton joins in, and doesn’t do much better by singing about hands, eyebrows, nostrils and butt cheeks in the hilarious parody, above.
