Sarah Michelle Gellar Enters U.S. Health Care Debate By Revealing Struggle With Postpartum Depression

Sarah Michelle Gellar is speaking out about health care in the U.S., joining the voices of other celebrities who are opposed to Republican moves to dismante the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare.

In an emotional message on Instagram, the former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star revealed that she struggled with postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter Charlotte, now seven.

“Having kids is wonderful, and life changing, and rarely what you’re prepared for,” Gellar wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, accompanying a caption of her then-infant daughter with husband Freddie Prinze Jr. “I love my children more than anything in the world. But like a lot of women, I too struggled with postpartum depression after my first baby was born.”

Gellar continued, urging her Instagram followers to contact their representatives in Congress so their voices can also be heard.

“I got help, and made it through, and every day since has been the best gift I could ever have asked for,” Gellar added. “To those of you going through this, know that you’re not alone and that it really does get better. And if you believe that postpartum depression should be covered by healthcare, please take a moment and go to today, find your rep’s numbers and let them know.”
