The inspiring true story of Batkid is coming to the big screen, with Julia Roberts officially signed on as star and executive producer.
As reported by Deadline, the Pretty Woman star has just completed a deal to adapt Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World, the documentary chronicling the tale of five-year-old leukemia patient Miles Scott.
The youngster’s story made headlines and warmed hearts througout the world when thousands of volunteers — including U.S. President Barack Obama — turned San Francisco into Gotham City in November 2013 to fulfil Miles’ wish of being the Dark Knight and battling such super-villains as the Joker and the Riddler, all thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The crowd-funded documentary on which the movie will be based is premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, currently underway in Park City, Utah.
Even better, the story has a happy ending; young Miles has apparently won his battle leukemia, and is in remission.
