The Lifetime channel has brought us made-for-TV biopics about such pop stars as Britney Spears, Toni Braxton and Whitney Houston, but the latest promises to take things to the next level by dramatizing the final years of Michael Jackson.
Rather than casting an actor as the late King of Pop, “Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland” stars a guy named Navi, who bills himself as the “world’s greatest” Michael Jackson impersonator.
In this new teaser for the upcoming biopic, Navi certainly looks the part, his uncanny resemblance to the late icon proving to be almost eerie.
The film is based on the 2014 book by Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard, who served as Jackson’s personal bodyguards, and finds Jackson embracing fatherhood while coping with the immense pressure of being one of the planet’s biggest stars.
“He doesn’t want to be the King of Pop,” one of the bodyguards says in a voiceover. “He just wants to be Mike. A normal American dad.”
“Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland” airs Monday, May 29 on Lifetime.
