Details surrounding Chris Cornell’s funeral service seem to be emerging.
The late Soundgarden singer’s funeral will reportedly take place on Friday, May 26 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles – according to The Detroit News.
Cornell, 52 at the time of his passing, was found dead last week at the MGM Grand Hotel in Detroit. The grunge icon’s cause of death was determined to be suicide after Soundgarden’s Detroit concert last Wednesday. His body will reportedly be flown to California on Sunday.
The service on Friday will be private, but Cornell’s family’s attorney Kirk Pasich said “one or more public memorials will be considered.”
“Without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris — or if any substances contributed to his demise,” the family’s attorney said in a statement this past Friday. “Chris, a recovering addict, had a prescription for Ativan and may have taken more Ativan than recommended dosages.”
“The family believes that if Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions.”
Cornell’s band Soundgarden was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards and won two in 1995.
