A 14-year-old victim of the Manchester concert bombing was greeted by a sweet voice after waking up from her injuries.
Teenage girl Freya Lewis was seriously injured in the horrifying explosion at Ariana Grande’s concert at the Manchester Arena. She suffered fractures, lacerations and burns from shrapnel — but most tragically the death of her friend Nell Jones.
Freya’s family has been updating readers on her condition through an ongoing blog and recently revealed an interaction with former One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles. “Firstly, Freya came around enough from sedation to look at her Dad, blow him a kiss and smile. Then Dad cried. What could surpass that?”
Well, an unexpected phone call might do the trick. “Secondly, the phone rang, and it was Harry Styles. Freya woke up, Harry said he loved her, she said she loved him, then Dad said he loved him!” the blog reads. “The PICU unit at Manchester Childrens Hospital has just been given a lift like you can not imagine!”
The tragic passing of Freya’s friend Nell is even more upsetting considering the circumstance. Freya had taken Nell to the Ariana Grande for the latter’s birthday. “We discussed the loss of her friend Nell, which she was unaware of up to this morning,” her family says.
“Needless to say, these details and thoughts are Freya’s and it is for her to decide in the future what, if anything, she shares with others,” the blog continues. “She understands, with absolute clarity, what happened on Monday night and what injuries she has sustained.”
“Freya’s response to all of this information has been incredible, beyond any words. Her strength is phenomenal and inspiring.”
