Joaquin Phoenix may have been announced Best Actor at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, but he snagged a real prize in Rooney Mara.
The “Mary Magdalene” co-stars made their rumoured relationship public, leaving closing night of the film festival together. Phoenix, 42, and Mara, 30, sat together during the awards show and Phoenix’s hands could be seen resting on Mara’s leg.
“They were talking to one another nonstop,” a source tells People. “Small talk between them. Then they went for their car and he’s holding her hand like it was unconscious. Like it fits. They seem a totally natural and easy couple.”
The two have been spotted on several lunch dates together since starring in the 2017 film, but that wasn’t their first time sharing the screen. Phoenix and Mara also co-starred in 2013’s “Her”.
Phoenix looked shocked when he was announced the winner of Best Actor at the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival. Mara smiled and urged him to take the stage.
