Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton is speaking out about Kathy Griffin’s violent “art project” featuring U.S. President Donald Trump.
The daughter of former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sat down with Whoopi Goldberg on “The View” Wednesday morning to discuss the disturbing subject. The talk show host asked Clinton what she thought about Kathy Griffin’s controversial and NSFW graphic artist rendition of a decapitated Donald Trump.
“You were one of the first people to sort of pull everybody’s coattail and say you never want to joke about the assassination of a President,” Goldberg told Clinton, referring to her tweet reacting to Griffin’s Instagram post on Tuesday.
“I hope that we are in a place as a country where we at least can agree on that,” Clinton, 37, replied. “I hope that we can at least agree that it is never funny to joke about violence about anyone, particularly in this politically charged moment toward our President.”
People were outraged and shocked after Griffin shared a photo in which she is depicted happily holding the bloody, severed head of Trump. The comedian has since apologized and removed the image, admitting it “is too disturbing.”
Later on in the show, the ladies of “The View” made jokes about book titles that play on Trump quotes and idioms, but Clinton bit her tongue and refused to play along.
