Saturday Night Live will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this Sunday with a star-studded three-hour special, and this week ET Canada joins the party by paying tribute to 40 years of laughs and star-making performances.

Now, thanks to Kate McKinnon’s impressions of Ellen and “The Biebs” and Cecily Strong’s “The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party,” the current cast of female characters are killing it in the SNL spotlight.

But as we go back to the very beginning, the funny female stars were always a great reason to stay at home on Saturday night.

From Gilda Radner and Jane Curtin to later stars such as Cheri Oteri and Molly Shannon to the powerhouse duo of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, ET Canada remembers 40 years of funny females in tonight’s show.
