Sean Penn has exhibited more than his share of hothead behaviour toward paparazzi over the years, spending a month in jail for belting a photographer in 1987 and striking a plea deal in 2010 after allegedly assaulting a different paparazzo.
However, a recent incident aboard a Delta airliner indicates the Oscar-winner’s volcanic temper has simmered down substantially — in fact, Penn emerged as the peaceful, non-violent voice of reason.
According to TMZ, the “Milk” star and daughter Dylan Penn were boarding a Delta flight — in the economy section — when they were accosted by a pair of angry passengers who took issue with the Penns placing their bags in an overhead compartment.
“We’re told that’s when two men approached Sean in a very ‘aggressive and rude manner’ to get him to move his bags,” reports TMZ. “After the guys jawed at Sean, we’re told he alerted the crew about what had gone down.”
After speaking with members of the crew, Penn and his daughter were moved from their economy seats and bumped up to first class, presumably to put some space between them and the troublemakers.
TMZ also reports that Penn didn’t feel the need to file a report on the matter, and a rep for the actor confirms Penn’s cool-headed efforts to prevent the situation from escalating.
