Canadian-born actress Meg Tilly is opening up about her previous relationship with a once up and coming actor named Colin Firth.
Meeting on the set of their 1989 film “Valmont”, the pair moved from Hollywood to a secluded home near Vancouver to raise Tilly’s two children from a previous relationship and eventually have one of their own.
“I always knew he was so talented,” Tilly tells People. “I think that’s part of why I fell in love with him. I just knew he was talented and the rest of the world didn’t. I was a pretty big star when we met, but he was just starting to rise.”
“I wasn’t surprised,” Tilly says of Colin’s fame following their split in 1994, telling the magazine that she joins her children to “cheer him on.”
“We’re so proud of him. He’s a wonderful actor and he’s a wonderful man,” Tilly adds. “He’s been a good father to Will, his son, but he’s also stayed very present in my other two children’s lives, Emily and David. He’s showed up for graduations, births of babies. He’s a sweetheart.”
Following their split, Firth found love with Livia Giuggioli (the couple share two children) and Tilly moved on with author Don Calame. Unlike some Hollywood splits, the couple has managed to turn their relationship into a friendship, something that Tilly is especially thankful for.
“If he wasn’t in the world, there would be a hole for me,” she says adding that “he’s my best friend, and he’s friends with [my husband] Don too.”
Adding, “When [our son] Will was in the house, he would stay with us, and when I go to England we always have dinner and go out together.”
She plays another Hollywood heartthrob, Brad Pitt’s wife in “War Machine” on Netflix now.
