Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith axe-man Joe Perry have formed a new supergroup — and they’ve already got a high-profile gig lined up.

Calling themselves Hollywood Vampires, front man Alice Cooper announced via Instagram that the newly formed band has booked a headlining slot at Brazil’s Rock in Rio festival, alongside such acts as System of a Down, Queens of the Stone age and the reunited Faith No More.

According to the Rock in Rio website, the trio recorded an album in 2013 (yet to be released) as a tribute to the original Hollywood Vampires, a notorious L.A. drinking crew in the 1970s with a revolving membership that included the likes of Harry Nilsson, Ringo Starr, Who drummer Keith Moon and John Lennon during his “lost weekend”; phase.

Johnny, an accomplished guitarist, has performed with Alice onstage on several occasions, including a 2012 gig at the L.A. Orpheum that reportedly led to the formation of Hollywood Vampires.

As Alice told Rolling Stone, Johnny has “become a close friend and collaborator. We’ve done a lot of recording together recently. He is really a very talented and cool guy. Johnny is a guy who doesn’t have to do anything; he does things because he wants to do them. It’s not about his ego.”;

The veteran shock rocker also praised Johnny’s musical skills. “Johnny has this old school rock “n’ roll feel in his playing,”; he said. “It is very choosy and thoughtful. He gets in and out and avoids overplaying, which a lot of players should learn from. He’s also not a stage hog, which surprised me at first. He’s happy being up there and enjoying the music, but he never makes it about him. What I really love about Johnny is that when he does music, it is for fun and because he loves music. He was a musician first, so I think it is really close to his heart.”;

It’s still unclear how Joe Perry’s connection to the group came about, but Johnny did contribute backing vocals to Aerosmith’s last album, Music From Another Dimension.
