“Will & Grace” was groundbreaking in its depiction of gay characters in a television sitcom, and given the show’s upcoming revival — and the fact that June is LGBTQ Pride Month — it’s only appropriate that series stars Debra Messing and Sean Hayes have shared a GLAAD-created video in which they highlight the importance of unity during today’s fractious political climate.
The video, which made its debut Thursday on GLAAD’s Facebook page, sees the actors using themselves as examples to underline the importance of minority communities sticking together in these uncertain times.
“This ampersand represents the power of our voices together,” says Hayes, pointing to a “&” symbol emblazoned on his shirt.
“I am a proud gay man, and a husband, and bald from the neck down,” he adds, throwing in a TMI joke.
“I’m a Jew, a feminist, and an LGBTQ activist,” declares Messing.
“No one is just one identity,” adds Hayes. “We must stand in unity and support each other, whether you’re LGBTQ or part of any marginalized community,” with Messing encouraging anyone watching to participate in one of the marches taking place throughout the world on Sunday, June 11.
