Did an insulting comment from Prince Charles lead Princess Diana to become bulimic?
That’s the damning accusation coming from Diana herself, courtesy of recorded interviews she gave for Diana: Her True Story, the 1992 bestseller by Andrew Morton.
As the Daily Mail reports, the audiotapes — which Diana recorded with a go-between who provided them to Morton — include the late royal candidly discussing the sting she felt at the words of her then-fiance.

“The bulimia started the week after we got engaged,” she revealed.
“My husband put his hand on my waistline and said: ‘Oh, a bit chubby here, aren’t we?’ and that triggered off something in me,” said Diana.
“The first time I was measured for my wedding dress, I was 29 inches around the waist,” she added. “The day I got married, I was 23-and-a-half inches. I had shrunk into nothing from February to July. I had shrunk to nothing.”
In addition, she also reveals that she began suspecting Charles was having an affair with his current wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles, immediately after they married.
“We always had discussions about Camilla, though,” stated Diana.
“I once heard him on the telephone in his bath on his hand-held set, saying: ‘Whatever happens, I will always love you.’ I told him afterwards that I had listened at the door, and we had a filthy row.”
