Following Jon Stewart’s announcement that he’ll be leaving The Daily Show when his contract comes up later this year, another member of The Daily Show family will also be saying so long: comedy correspondent Jason Jones.
The native of Hamilton, Ont., dropped the bombshell today on Twitter, announcing that “it is time for me to go”; after nearly 10 years with the show.
According to Deadline, Jone’s anouncement comes shortly after TBS announced it was picking up the new comedy series he and wife Samantha Bee have developed about a family’s vacation road trip that goes hilariously awry.
The still-untitled series, reports Deadline, “is inspired by his and Bee’s own experiences with family getaways. It follows a couple and their two young kids as they take a road trip to Florida. Jones plays unfiltered dad Nate, who packs his wife, Robin (Natalie Zea), along with their rebellious daughter Delilah (Ashley Gerasimovich) and simpleton son Jared (Liam Carroll), into the family car for what Nate is convinced will be the adventure of a lifetime. Every leg of their trip, however, is fraught with unforeseen disaster as they encounter one hellish turn after another.”;
Comedy Central has confirmed Jones’ departure while adding Samantha Bee will not be leaving. “Jason Jones will be leaving The Daily Show with Jon Stewart later this year to being production on his new series,”; reads the statement. “Samantha Bee will remain with the show.”;
For 9 & 1/2 years, I have worked at one of the greatest TV shows of all time. But… It is time for me to go. 1/2
