Miley Cyrus has sparked a feud with Italian fashion firm Dolce & Gabbana thanks to a throwaway diss in an Instagram post that fired up one of D&G’s founders enough that he served up a scathing response.
It all began when Cyrus issued an Instagram post, sharing a photo of brother Braison, a model who made his runway debut at D&G’s Spring 2018 Milan Fashion Week show during the weekend.
While congratulating her brother, pointing out that he never had any previous aspirations to be a model, she decided to throw shade at Dolce & Gabbana over the company’s political stance.
“PS D&G, I STRONGLY disagree with your politics…but I do support your company’s effort to celebrate young artists & give them the platform to shine their light for all to see!” she wrote.
While she wasn’t specific as to which of the company’s political stances she opposed, it likely stems from some controversial comments that D&G co-founder Domenico Dolce made about in gay adoptions and vitro fertilization back in 2015. “We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one,” said Dolce, who also described children born from IVF as “synthetic.”
The comments created a firestorm in the fashion world, with such stars as Elton John, Cher and “American Horror Story” exec producer Ryan Murphy calling for a D&G boycott.
Meanwhile, the other half of Dolce & Gabbana returned fire with a scathing comment on her Instagram post. “Ignorant!!!” wrote Stefano Gabbano, vowing to never again hire her brother as a model. “For your stupid comment never more work with him ❤❤.”
Then, Gabbano issued an Instagram post of his own, reposting Cyrus’s original photo and offering a few choice words of his own.
“We are Italian and we don’t care about politics and mostly neither about the American one!” he wrote. “We make dresses and if you think about doing politics with a post it’s simply ignorant. We don’t need your posts or comments so next time please ignore us!! #boycottdolcegabbana.”
