Gospel Choir Blows The Roof Off Of ‘America’s Got Talent’ Auditions

The current season of “America’s Got Talent” is shaping up to be one of its most memorable ever, with unforgettable acts so far including a death-defying escape artist, a Sia-singing clown and a nine-year-old singer who could give Celine Dion a run for her money.

Tuesday’s show, however, brought out a familiar-seeming act that had a soulful secret hidden up its collective sleeve when a gospel choir took to the stage to perform that old Sunday School standard “This Little Light of Mine”.

As performed by Danell Daymon and Greater Works, the song started off reverentially before shifting gears to become a full-on, hand-clapping, foot-stomping revival tent crowd-pleaser, winning four “yes” votes from the judges.

“I generally do not like choir, but I’ve gotta be honest. You took this Jew to church,” judge Howie Mandel quipped. “This little yes of mine, I’m going to let it shine.”

His fellow judge Simon Cowell praised the choir’s soloist, telling her: “If you ever give up deciding to be in a choir, you know how to get a hold of me. But they’re not going to let you.”
