‘Remedy’ Star Enrico Colantoni Calls Foul On ‘Orphan Black’ At Canadian Screen Awards

By Brent Furdyk.

While shot-in-Toronto Orphan Black dominated the Canadian Screen Awards last year, Canadian actor Enrico Colantoni is calling foul, pointing out that although the acclaimed sci-fi hit may be filmed in Canada and stars Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany, it’s not really a Canadian production (Orphan Black airs in the U.S. on BBC America).

“They’ve got BBC money, you know what I mean?” Colantoni told reporters while promoting the upcoming second season of his Global medical drama Remedy.

“I love the show and I love [star] Tatiana [Maslany] and thank you for putting a big Canadian flag on it,”; he added. “But it’s like when Flashpoint was up against The Borgias every year. It’s just like, really.”;

Here in Canada, Orphan Black airs on Space, which, like CTV, is owned by BellMedia, and CTV spokesman Scott Henderson begs to disagree. Admitting that Orphan Black does receive some financial support from BBC America, he says the show is “virtually 100 per cent Canadian. This is, sadly, about people not realizing it’s a Canadian show. It is.”;

The Canadian Screen Awards air Sunday, Mar. 1.

Meanwhile, fans of Colantoni will be pleased to know the second season of Remedy premieres Monday, Mar. 23 on Global. You can watch full episodes of Remedy online.
