Fifth Harmony On Promoting Female Empowerment: ‘We Have So Much More To Offer’

Fifth Harmony is back with the release of their latest hit single, “Down”, featuring Gucci Mane, which is ushering in a brand new era for the girl group after parting ways with their former member, Camila Cabello, last December.

In a Canadian exclusive, ET Canada’s Natasha Gargiulo sits down with the chart-topping group ahead of the release of their new album, due later this year. They talked about their popular new tune, which has hit number one in a whopping 25 countries, making it the Fifth Harmony’s highest iTunes debut yet.

“We have been so creatively involved,” Ally Brooke says of the group’s new music. “We’ve co-written more than half the album, which is such a milestone for us.” Lauren Jauregui adds, “You can tell through the delivery of the vocals that we have more of a connection in the way it’s delivered.”

“I think it’s just the relationship that we have amongst the four of us,” Normani Kordei adds of their close bond, which has developed since their debut on “The X Factor (U.S.)” five years ago. “We genuinely do have a love and respect for each other and I think we’ve just grown so much over the course of the last four to five years.”

Speaking of promoting ideals of female empowerment, Jauregui says, “I think saying we’re too sexy is objectifying [women] and taking the way we present ourselves and making it about you. A women shouldn’t ever be an object. We have so much more to offer than that, and so much more than just our bodies.”
