Alyssa Milano took to Twitter on Thursday and invited her 3.1 million Twitter followers for a group hug, asking fans to “get in.”
And while it would have been easy to assume the invitation was open to everyone throughout the Twitterverse, apparently there’s at least one exception.
That became loud and clear when Texas Senator and failed presidential candidate Ted Cruz hopped in on the invitation, tweeting, “We all need a hug!” He capped off his tweet with a winking smiley-face emoji.
Milano, an ardent supporter of Hillary Clinton who is a vocal opponent of the Trump administration, responded hilariously. “Not you @tedcruz,” she replied to to Cruz, who was famously nicknamed “Lyin’ Ted” by Trump on the campaign trail. “You’re not invited.”
This opened the floodgates of mockery throughout the Twitterverse, where the former “Who’s the Boss?” star’s followers chimed in to goof on Cruz and the apparent creepiness of his comment, including one Twitter user who quipped: “Thanks for ruining hugs.”
