It’s official: Patty Jenkins is now the most successful female director of all time now that the international box office for “Wonder Woman” has surpassed $615 million, making Jenkins’ film the highest-grossing live-action film ever to be directed by a woman.
As Forbes reports, the Gal Gadot-starring superhero flick has bested the global gross of the previous record-holder, Phyllida Lloyd’s “Mamma Mia!”, which raked in $609 million when it was released in 2008.
Meanwhile, if “Wonder Woman” continues its estimated trajectory, it will pass the $665-million mark to surpass Jennifer Yuh Nelson’s “Kung Fu Panda 2” to become the biggest movie ever from a female director.
Other female directors who’ve delivered blockbusters at the box office include Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight”, which earned $393 million) and Amy Heckerling (“Look Who’s Talking”, $308 million).
