Robert Downey Jr. has tried his hand at it, Jonny Lee Miller has rebooted the character to the small screen and Benedict Cumberbatch has undoubtedly mastered him, but now “X-Men”; star Sir Ian McKellen is stepping into the iconic deerstalker of Sherlock Holmes.
Not only getting an Oscar-nominated twist in McKellen, but a big screen as well, the actor continues the story of Britain’s most famous detective in “Mr. Holmes”; hitting screens this summer.
The teaser trailer sets the film in the British countryside after World War II and follows Sherlock as he tries to overcome his failing memory to crack the unsolved mystery.
The twist (because there has to be one when you’re talking about Sherlock Holmes)? Dr. Watson seems to be missing (from the trailer at least), replaced by a young boy, played by Milo Parker.
