It’s the lyric video you didn’t ask for but the one “the internet needs,” at least according to Katy Perry, who dropped the visuals for her song “Swish Swish” on Monday.
The vibrant music video features Brazilian pop star-turned-GIF icon, Gretchen, known in her home country as “Rainha do Bumbum” (“Queen of Butt”). Living up to her name, the Meme Queen delivers some serious booty-shaking in the new video.
Gretchen found fame in Brazil in the 1980s with a number of hit singles, including “Freak Le Boom Boom” and “Conga Conga Conga,” and went on to sell over 15 million albums worldwide. In recent years, the Latin American star has had a career resurgence as a viral meme sensation due to her outspoken personality and GIFable reactions.

The single, which also features Nicki Minaj, comes from Perry’s latest album, Witness, which topped the iTunes charts in 46 countries and came in at number one on the US Billboard chart. The lyric video — directed by Dario Vetere and shot in Salvador, Brazil, in collaboration with dance group Fit Dance — is not the first time Perry has embraced internet culture. During the pre-album rollout, the “Bon Appétit” singer livestreamed herself for four days on a Big Brother-style YouTube feed.
“Swish Swish” is thought to be a response track to Taylor Swift, whose 2014 single “Bad Blood” was speculated to be an attack on Perry. The two popular music stars have been embroiled in a bitter public feud ever since.
