Last month Leslie Jones appeared on TBS’ Conan, and when discussing her love life with the late-night talk show host, the Ghostbusters star joked she was “kind of” seeing someone.
“It’s a secret, so I don’t want everybody bothering him, you know what I’m saying?” the 49-year-old comedian told Conan O’Brien after he asked her about what she looks for in a potential boyfriend. “I don’t want to sit on television and be like, ‘Oh, the type of man I’m looking for …’ and then I’ll talk to him and he’ll be like, ‘Yeah, I heard you was looking for this type of dude.’ Don’t get me in trouble!”
However, earlier today, the Saturday Night Live actress took to Twitter to let the world know, “There was never a secret boyfriend.”
Jones’ candid tweets have become somewhat of a recurring source of humour for the comedian, who laughed about the topic on Conan.
When O’Brien brought up her February 21 tweet, “I’m drunk and I want to have sex right now!! Dammit!!”, Jones simply explained by saying, “I’m a grown-ass woman and I sent out a grown-ass tweet – and I expected grown-ass answers, okay?”
O’Brien later referenced a tweet from March, in which Jones wrote, “Man I hope I get to have sex before I leave L.A.! But I don’t know, the men are so scared of me out here! Where the warriors at?!” She made light of the tweet in question, admitting, “That wasn’t a drunk tweet; that was just a frustration tweet.”
Today’s tweet about her single status is another example of Jones using social media to fight back against salacious rumours and gossip. Jones — the victim of a hacking scandal last August when nude photos and personal information were posted on her website — defiantly stood up against Twitter trolls when she refused to be scared offline.
