One reporter got a lot more than she bargained for while covering July 4th celebrations when someone projectile-vomited on her. And it all happened live.
KTLA reporter Wendy Burch was out at an Ironman competition on Hermosa Beach in Los Angeles, reporting live from the middle of a rowdy crowd when the unthinkable happened.
One of the very excited — and very drunk — competitors couldn’t keep it in and puked all over Burch and the man she was interviewing.
Right at the moment of impact, the video freezes, and all that can be heard is Burch shouting, “no, no,” before the feed cuts back to the studio where her colleagues looked on and laughed in horror.
Later, in a blog post, Burch wrote about the experience, and noted that the frozen frame was a technical glitch, and that she assumed she was still live on the air.
“So, for the better part of the next two minutes, I just kept interviewing drunken people while sudsy substances flew in the air and landed in my hair,” Burch wrote.
Thankfully there’s video of that, too, for the people who really want to witness Burch’s incredible professionalism in the face of a reporting nightmare.
“Let’s say, after that, it was a wrap. I drove home, took a hot shower and a long nap,” Burch wrote in her blog post.
Burch also had some advice for you people looking to become journalists: “To all of you aspiring journalists out there, I’m here to tell you, dreams really do come true… especially in the age of viral videos.”
