The Director behind “Midnight Rider”;, Randall Miller, pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of a 27-year-old camera assistant. This is the first time in the history of film that a filmmaker is going to jail for a death on set.

The crew were filming on train tracks in Georgia when Sarah Jones was struck by a freight train. Miller claimed that he thought they had permission to be on site and that there was no danger.

Randall was booked for trespassing and involuntary manslaugter and brought straight to Wayne County Jail. His lawyer told the press: “We expect him to be released in 12 months. That’s our expectation.”

The first accident on-set happened way back in 1914, when 16-year-old actress Grace McHugh and a cameraman drowned while shooting “Across The Boarder”;. Since that incident there have been over 52 deaths on set, but up until now no one else had been convicted of such a crime.
