The engine of Harrison Ford’s vintage fighter plane lost power soon after takeoff, reveals a preliminary report from The National Transportation Safety Board.
As Gossip Cop notes, the findings are “preliminary and subject to change,”; but do follow the scenario that unfolded when the Star Wars star was forced to attempt an emergency landing in a golf course in Venice, California.
The report notes that Ford’s Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR “sustained substantial damage following a loss of engine power and subsequent forced landing.”; In addition, an air traffic controller at Santa Monica Municipal Airport reported Ford advised the airport of his engine failure and requested an “immediate return”; soon after takeoff.
The actor turned his plane for an attempted return to the airport, but instead grazed the top of the tree and crashed into the ground at the golf course.
Ford underwent surgery for a broken ankle and pelvis, but is respected to make a full recovery.
