CBC Radio Replaces Jian Ghomeshi On ‘Q’

By Jeremy Singer.

After a four-month search, CBC Radio’s Q has finally selected its new host in rapper Shadrach Kabango.

The Juno Award-winning musician replaces former host Jian Ghomeshi, who was fired last October due to sexual assault allegations before formal criminal charges were laid.

The program has since received more than 200 applicants and featured a variety of temporary guest hosts. However 32-year-old Kabango, also known as Shad, stood out during his week-long audition in late January, where he interviewed arts figures like actress Evangeline Lilly and cartoonist Art Spiegelman.

The hip/hop rapper tried to play off the news humbly, by posting on Facebook: “Did you guys hear the news? The Spurs beat the Raptors tonight with unselfish play. Duncan scored 12!”

Besides his musical endeavours, the three-time Polaris Prize nominee is also known for being the Canada Reads 2012 winner, where he defended Carmen Aguirre’s memoir, Something Fierce.
