Canadian Avan Jogia In The Race For ‘Aladdin’ Role

Vancouver-native, and budding heartthrob, Avan Jogia appears to be leading the race for the lead role in the upcoming live-action version of Disney’s classic film, “Aladdin”.

According to TMZ, Jogia, who co-starred alongside Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice in “Victorious”, submitted an audition tape to director Guy Ritchie in London recently, landing him ahead of his fellow competitors.

On Twitter, Jogia’s legion of fans have taken matters into their own hands, rallying behind the star and nominating him as the perfect male actor to step into Aladdin’s shoes.

Jogia amassed his large following after starring as Beck Oliver in Nickelodeon’s “Victorious”, and has since appeared in Spike TV’s “Tut” miniseries alongside Ben Kingsley.

With an original production schedule slated to begin this summer, Disney is under immense pressure to pin down their perfect star. As THR reports, familiar faces such as Riz Ahmed and Dev Patel have also been considered in the months-long, “massive global search” that saw approximately 2,000 actors and actresses audition for leading roles.

As Disney continues its search for an actor of Middle-Eastern or Indian descent, another Canadian name, Mena Massoud, has also been considered by the studio.

Other newcomers who are vying for the role include Dutch actor Achraf Koutet and George Kosturos.

Meanwhile, Twitter users have made some suggestions for casting Princess Jasmine.
