Kelsey Grammer’s pain is behind him and he’s focused on the future.
In a new interview with i News, the actor opened up about his past struggle with substance abuse, the trauma he has faced and where he is today.
Growing up, Grammer had to endure his parent’s divorce at the young age of just 2-years-old. When he turned 11, his grandmother who raised him following the divorce, passed away. Just two years after that, his father was murdered. His sister Karen was raped and murdered, while his two half-brothers were killed during a shark attack.
For Grammer, he says it’s a constant struggle dealing with his demons, like sobriety, but that he’s accepted it is part of his life. “I just put that pain where it is: in the past. But it’s a pain that you can always stumble into again – it’s with you 24/7, especially in the case of tragic death, and there have been a few of those,” he said.
“It’s just part of life. Maybe I learned a little earlier than most, but it’s just the way it goes,” Grammer continued.
His marriage with his fourth wife, Kayte Walsh, hasn’t been easy either. The couple suffered several miscarriages before the birth of their children together. “These things are hard. But when it’s good, it’s magnificent,” the father of seven said.
During his times of struggle, the actor turns to his faith to get him through. “As a Christian, we always fail because we can’t become Christ. But I can try at least to emulate the best qualities, even if I may fall short,” he said.
