As the Marvel movie universe continues its successful expansion, one of the most popular members of “The Avengers” series will “never” feature in a standalone film, the actor who plays him revealed in an interview during Disney’s D23 fan expo.
“I want to just make one thing perfectly clear today: A standalone Hulk movie will never happen,” said Mark Ruffalo, who portrays the not-so-jolly green giant’s alter ego Bruce Banner, in an interview with Variety.
“With you as the new Hulk, it would be terrible,” joked Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine, standing next to Ruffalo during the interview.
The reason, however, has nothing to do with the character’s popularity, but instead lies with the fact that a different studio currently owns the rights to the character and has already made two Hulk movies: 2003’s Ang Lee-directed “Hulk”, starring Eric Bana, and 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk”, starring Edward Norton.
“Universal has the rights to a standalone Hulk movie, and for some reason, they don’t know how to play well with Marvel,” explained Ruffalo. “And they don’t want to make money.” Watch:
