Despite the vicious barbs and caustic one-liners, there were no casualties at the Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber, which was held last night in Los Angeles (although TV viewers won’t get to watch it until it airs on Mar. 30).
With Kevin Hart serving as roastmaster, the dais was packed with an array of insult comics (including roast regular Jeffrey Ross), celebrity roasters (Martha Stewart, Snoop Dogg and Shaquille O’Neal) and a few last-minute additions, including Ludacris and SNL“s Pete Davidson.
As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Hart got in the first shots, mocking Bieb’s’ ability behind the wheel (“He has the voice and driving skills of Stevie Wonder”;) and his manger, Scooter Braun, who discovered the teen phenom on YouTube during some late-night Internet surfing (“You need to be in jail, Scooter”;).
Martha Stewart got in a memorable jab when she goofed on Bieber’s millions of Twitter followers, and the ex-con spoke from experience about what will happen with his Beliebers when he gets sent to the slammer: “The only place people will be following you in jail is into the shower.”;
The highlight of the evening, however, was surprise roaster Ron Burgundy, played to perfection by Will Ferrell, who landed one of the night’s funniest lines about Bieber: “He sings to nine-year-olds, and his hair is like a gay figure skater.”;
After two hours of merciless roasting, Bieber himself took to the podium — to apologize.
“I turned a lot of people off over the past few years, but I know I can still turn out good music and turn everything all around,”; said Bieber. “I’ve lost some of my best qualities. For that, I am sorry. I’m looking forward to being someone who you guys can all look at and be proud of.”;
For an additional taste of what’s in store for The Biebs, we have two preview clips below. One features Kevin Hart promising to give Justin the ass-whooping he deserves and the other has Jeffrey Ross informing the pop star that he’s offering up this roasting on behalf of the entire planet. As you can imagine, both clips are a bit on the NSFW side. Approach with caution. The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber airs Monday, Mar. 30.
