Most seasoned flyers tend to tune out during those airline safety demonstration videos, but British Airways is trying to make sure everyone pays attention by loading up their video with celebrities.
Filmed in collaboration with Comic Relief, this star-studded BA safety demonstration features an array of stars, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Sir Ian McKellen, Gillian Anderson, Gordon Ramsay, Steve Coogan and Jim Broadbent — along with a special appearance at the end by “Mr. Bean” star Rowan Atkinson. British comedian Asim Chaudhry (a.k.a. Chabuddy G) plays the director, who chides his celebrity cast for their inexperience in making safety videos.
“It’s not ‘X-Files’, it’s not aliens,” he tells Anderson, “so just chill out.”
The intent, however, isn’t merely to prepare airline passengers for an emergency landing, but also to promote Flying Start, a global organization that raises money for children in need by encouraging passengers to donate change in whatever currency they happen to have in envelopes located in the seat fronts.
This isn’t the first time celebrities have been utilized to entice passengers to pay attention to airline safety demonstrations; for proof, check out this hilarious safety video from Air New Zealand featuring the great Betty White:
