It’s been awhile since we’ve seen those like Jaeger, but Thursday brought fans the first look at the long-awaited sequel to “Pacific Rim”, Guillermo Del Toro’s unique take on Godzilla-style monster movies.
For the uninitiated, the 2013 original featured “pilots” who controlled giant robots that fought gargantuan creatures called Kaiju, who hail from another dimension but entered our world through an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
The sequel stars John Boyega (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) as Charlie Pentecost, who is said to be the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first film, while Scott Eastwood (“The Fate of the Furious”) co-stars; Charlie Hunnam, who starred in the original, won’t be appearing.
“A new generation of Jaeger Pilots will stand tall for all humanity,” notes the synopsis. “What is a Jaeger? It’s you, times a thousand. Witness the next evolution of human invention, with the unveiling of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps Mark VI Jaeger Program, and visit GOJAEGER.COM to discover if you have what it takes to join the biggest heroes ever to walk the Earth.”
“Pacific Rim: Uprising” is scheduled to hit theatres on Feb. 23, 2018.
